Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC)
The Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC) exam is what you need to pass in order to apply for a Possession and Acquisition Licence that lets you get restricted firearms. Many handguns and some semi-automatic rifles fall into the restricted category. As many of the same principles apply to both long guns and handguns you will see that there is some duplication of content across the two types of exams.
What to expect in your CRFSC exam
The format of the CRFSC is the same as the one for non-restricted firearms. There are written and practical components and you need to score 80% on each to pass. The written exam has a mixture of 50 multiple choice and true/false questions. In the practical test you will handle three handguns, a double action revolver, a single action revolver and a semi-automatic pistol. You will have to demonstrate that you know how to do routine things such as:
- prove the firearms safe
- common shooting stances
- loading and unloading
- range procedures
- storage and transport requirments
